I am a researcher at the Institute of Cognitive Sciences and Technologies (ISTC) of the Italian National Research Council (CNR), member of the Laboratory of Autonomous Robotics and Artificial Life (LARAL), working within the ITALK Project, a project founded by the European Commision.

In 2003, I received a PhD in Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence from the University of Sussex, Brighton (UK).

In 1996, I received a Laurea in Experimental Psychology from the University of Rome "La Sapienza", Rome, Italy. My final dissertaion was on foraging behaviour in monkeys (Cebus apella).

Within the ITALK Project, my research work focuses on the design of mechanisms for the development of perceptual (tactile and visual) categories in a anthropomorphic robot. Since the time of my PhD, my research activity has been focusing on the design of mechanisms that underpin form of behavioural plasticity and learning behaviour, and on the evolution of signalling and communication in artificial agents. As far as it concerns the methodological tools of my research work, I use a particular type of computer simulation models, referred to as evolutionary robotics models.
